Garcia and Donald worked well to add to Mickelson's misery

Sergio Garcia made it four out of four in the Ryder Cup by helping European partner Luke Donald beat Phil Mickelson and David Toms 2&1 in the foursomes.

A double-bogey on the second from the American duo and a superb 12-foot putt on 10 from Donald left Europe two up.

But world number two Mickelson and Toms made birdies in the next two holes.

The decisive blows came when Toms went into the water on the 15th and Donald landed a monster putt on the next, which the Americans had no answer to.

"That's probably the loudest roar I've ever heard on a golf course and what an arena to make that putt in," Englishman Donald said of his effort on the 16th.

For Garcia it was a sixth Ryder Cup victory on the trot, including his 2004 exploits.

"Good partners help and we make a good couple on this course," the Spaniard explained.

"He hits the ball down the middle, I somehow get it around the hole and he taps it in - it works perfectly.

"The most important thing is that Europe are up there and we give our best to help the team - that's what drives us."

Mickelson, with only half a point to his name this year, had been out-of-sorts in the morning fourballs.

He perked up considerably for the more difficult format of alternate shots but his young opponents, who get on well on and off the course, made the early running.

They could have stretched their lead to three holes when Garcia pitched up to eight feet at the 11th but Donald could not make it tell.
