Monty and Olazabal are friends again following their recent spat

Montgomerie criticised the Spaniard for missing the final qualifying event in Munich last month even though he was not certain of his place in the side.

"There are no hard feelings at all," said Olazabal. "That's in the past.

"He made certain points but the media like to make a big thing out of a few words. He did not mean it to harm me."

When Olazabal cited tiredness for pulling out of the BMW International Open, Montgomerie had said: "There is a long winter to be tired. I am very surprised that he isn't here."

The Scot's comments riled Olazabal, but he insisted the matter was now forgotten.

"I've already kissed him on both cheeks," said the Spaniard.

Despite missing the BMW International Open, the 40-year-old Olazabal still managed to make his first Ryder Cup team since Brookline in 1999.

That match was shrouded in controversy, with Olazabal involved in one of the most infamous moments in the event's history.

During his crucial singles clash against Justin Leonard, the American holed a 45-foot putt at the 17th that sent members of his team dancing for joy across the green even though Olazabal still had a putt to keep the competition alive.

But Olazabal says he is not looking for revenge.

"I don't have any hard feelings to be honest," he said. "I have wonderful memories of the Ryder Cup. Some sad ones obviously, but put everything in one package and it comes out positive.

"The camaraderie, the experience, the joy is there."

Olazabal insists he cannot wait to get started this week as Europe look to win their third straight Ryder Cup.

"The last time I played I was one of the youngest on the team, now I'm one of the oldest," he added.

"It's almost like starting all over again, but I'm really excited to part of the team again and I told captain Ian Woosnam I can play with whoever.
