America's Riley made his Ryder Cup debut in 2004
American Davis Love plummetted from the lead with a fresh air shot on 17 to leave Lucas Glover (66) and Chris Riley (66) on top after round one at Medinah.

Billy Andrade (67) was five under, while England's Luke Donald (68) was among those four under alongside Love.

Tiger Woods and playing partners Phil Mickelson and Geoff Ogilvy all ended among the group on three under.

England's Lee Westwood also finished three under, as did Spain's Sergio Garcia, runner up here in 1999.

0100: With all 156 players back in the clubhouse the spread of scores goes from the six under of Chris Riley and Lucas Glover to the 10 over of 40-year-old Ron Philo Jr.

2320: Tournament leader Davis Love collapses on the short 17th with an air shot from the rough behind the green. He opts to plop his third into the bunker and takes a six to slip to four under.

2311: David Howell bounces back from his bogey on 14 with a birdie on 15.

2306: Sergio Garcia, putting with a more orthodox grip than in recent times, just misses a birdie chance on 15 to stay four under.

2255: Australian Stuart Appleby bogeys the 13th to slip back to four under. Also massing on three under are the likes of Henrik Stenson, Shaun Micheel, and John Daly.

2244: Ernie Els is struggling to ignite and misses another shortish birdie putt to stay two under after 13.

2232: Davis Love conjures a stunning third to the long 14th, after finding the rough with his drive, to set up another birdie and get back to seven under.

2225: Australian Stuart Appleby dribbles a short birdie chance past the cup on 11 to stay four under.

Jim Furyk birdies the 244-yard par-three 13th for two under. But Colin Montgomerie doubles bogeys the 11th to plummet to two over.

2212: Davis Love is the ice man today and rattles in a tricky 10-footer for par at the 13th. Meanwhile, Ernie Els tiptoes to two under after 11.

2210: A host of players are toiling at one under including Ernie Els, Jim Furyk, Fred Couples, Henrik Stenson, Ian Poulter, John Daly and John Bickerton.

2204: Former champion Shaun Micheel double-bogeys the 12th after thinning his chip across the green to drop back to three under.

2033: American John Daly finds trouble off the tee on the par-four 4th and drops a shot to slip to level par.

2028: Colin Montgomerie slides in a six-foot birdie putt on the 4th to reach one under. And Sergio Garcia birdies the 5th for three under.

2022: Spain's Sergio Garcia birdies the 1st and 3rd to reach two under, while Ian Poulter, Fred Couples, John Daly and Bernhard Langer are all one under early on in their rounds.

2010: Vijay Singh remains one over after two, while Colin Montgomerie is level after three, David Howell level after four and Jim Furyk even par after five.

1940: Ernie Els bogeys the 1st but American Davis Love, 15th in the US Ryder Cup standings, starts with three birdies in his first four holes.

1927: European Order of Merit leader David Howell gets under way with a birdie on the first. Sergio Garcia also birdies the first, seven years after finishing runner-up to Tiger Woods at Medinah. England's Paul Casey begins with a par.

1920: Phil Mickelson lips out with a freight-train of a long putt on the 18th to finish on three under. Playing partners Tiger Woods and Geoff Ogilvy also par the last for rounds of 69.

1905: Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and playing partner Geoff Ogilvy all birdie the long 7th, their 16th, to reach three under.

1855: All change again at the top as Billy Andrade hands in a 67 and Billy Mayfair slips back to five under with one hole left.

1845: Billy Andrade sets the first clubhouse lead with a round of 67 for five under. Fellow American Stewart Cink cards 68 and Fred Funk a 69.

1840: Denmark's Thomas Bjorn, a close friend of Darren Clarke, struggles with his game and cards an opening 80. Another friend of the family Padraig Harrington hands in a three-over 75.

1825: Luke Donald birdies the 7th, his 16th to reach five under as Phil Mickelson gets back to two under with a birdie at the long 5th, his 14th.

1814: Woods has carded seven straight pars from the 16th, his seventh, while Mickelson is trying to bounce back from the bogey he made on the 2nd, his 11th.

Meanwhile, Ireland's Padraig Harrington has had a disaster, plummeting from two under after seven to three over with two to play following a run of bogey, bogey, double-bogey from the 14th.

1800: Lee Westwood joins the swelling ranks on four under with a birdie on the 537-yard par-five 5th, his 14th.

1745: Luke Donald edges to four under with a birdie at the 5th, his 14th. He is joined by American Billy Mayfair as Lucas Glover and Brett Wetterich both slide the other way to three under and level respectively.

Wetterich, in line for a Ryder Cup debut this year, ran up a quadruple bogey eight on the 12th and dropped another shot at the 13th.

1735: Phil Mickelson drops a shot at the short 2nd, his 11th, for one under. Ireland's Padraig Harrington also slides to one under after a bogey at the 605-yard par-five 14th.

1725: Billy Andrade edges to five under with a birdie on the 5th, his 14th. But further down the leaderboard the pair of Jose Maria Olazabal and Graeme McDowell are struggling at three over, with Thomas Bjorn and Nick Dougherty five over.

1715: An American trio takes over from the English contingent at the top as Billy Andrade, Lucas Glover and Brett Wetterich climb to four under.

England's Kenneth Ferrie, who also featured prominently in the US Open, slipped back to two under with a bogey on the 6th, his 15th.

1700: Luke Donald birdies the 2nd, his 11th, to join the leaders on three under as countryman Lee Westwood meets him coming the other way after a bogey on the 1st, his 10th.

1645: Westwood marches clear on his own with a third straight birdie at the 18th, his ninth. Luke Donald, meanwhile, edges to two under after eight.

1620: Woods creeps to two under alongside Mickelson with a second straight birdie on the 15th, his sixth.

1605: Woods birdies the 14th hole to move to one under after five holes of his round. Playing partner Mickelson remains on two under.

1525: Woods gets his shot back and moves to level par - and Westwood joins Mickelson on two under.

1500: Great start from Phil Mickelson - he goes to two under after just two holes while playing partner Tiger Woods drops a shot to slip to one over.

1445: Kenneth Ferrie goes to three under after six to cap a brilliant start.

1430: Luke Donald, dressed all in black, pars the 10th. In the group behind, Lee Westwood chips to two feet for a birdie matched by playing partner Chris DiMarco.

1415: Billy Andrade moves to two under and the outright lead. Padraig Harrington and Thomas Bjorn are both on level par after one hole.

1350: England's Kenneth Ferrie, a doubtful starter on the eve of the championship, starts it with a birdie. He drives into a bunker on the par five 10th, but hits his third shot to 15 feet and makes the birdie putt.

1320: Ryan Palmer leads on one under par after getting a birdie on his opening hole. But Andres Romero and Steve Flesch both card bogeys to move to one over.
