In the third of his daily reports from Winged Foot, Five Live's golf correspondent talks about The Office, Monty's bachelorhood and just desserts for the Statue of Liberty.

What must David Howell make of the USA? Fresh from being mistaken as Graeme McDowell by one fan, he's now been engaged in a long conversation with a PGA Tour staffer about the TV comedy The Office.

Like David Brent, Howell proves he is a 'chilled-out entertainer'

The conversation began with the Tour man asking "Do you like the Office?"

"Of course, doesn't everybody?" replied Howell, and the chat continued for the next half hour.

The programme is cult viewing in the PGA Tour media office - one staff member even went to Slough on his honeymoon.

Monty's always in a good mood after a good round, so that's the time to pose the difficult questions.

This was the theory as a game American ventured: "How's your social life been going and bachelorhood and all that stuff?"

"You can ask the question, you're not getting an answer," replied the beaming Scot.

I'm not sure Montgomerie has any time for a "social life" at the moment as he's in the middle of an unbroken 11-week stretch of tournament golf - seems to be doing his game no harm though.

So after a stunning first day for Europe, is the major drought about to end? No-one from the continent has won a big one since Paul Lawrie at the 1999 Open.

Kenneth Ferrie is certainly hoping this is the case, saying: "I think we are due and have some really great players here.

"Fingers crossed one of us can do it and get rid of the burden that is growing."

A group of British golf journalists witnessed the arrest of the Statue of Liberty. On a visit to Manhattan they saw a man dressed as the famous landmark.

Moments later police arrived, applied handcuffs and carted him off. Liberty was incarcerated and heard to shout: "I'll be back tomorrow," as he was bundled into the vehicle by those who protect the citizens of the "Land of the Free".
