Clarke will be aiming for the first Irish win in the event since 1982 |
Darren Clarke and reigning US Open Champion Michael Campbell will be among the contenders at next month's Nissan Irish Open at Carton House. Campbell won the championship in 2003 but Clarke will be aiming to become the first Irish winner of the event since John O'Leary's success in 1982.
Colin Montgomerie, Padraig Harrington and Paul McGinley will also be among the contenders from 18-21 May.
Other hopefuls will include David Howell and holder Stephen Dodd.
Dodd edged out Howell in a play-off to win last year's event at Carton House.
Montgomerie won the tournament in 1996, 1997 and 2001 and will be in action on a course which he designed.
Other notable names in the field will be Thomas Bjorn and Paul Broadhurst plus 2006 European Tour winners Kevin Stadler and Simon Dyson.
