Argentine Ricardo Gonzalez equalled the course record with a stunning 64 to edge one shot clear with 18 holes left of the Portuguese Open at Penina. Gonzalez reached 13 under to climb above England's overnight leader and defending champion Paul Broadhurst, who fought back from a late blip with a 71.
Englishman Anthony Wall, Swede Jarmo Sandelin and Spain's Carl Suneson were one stroke further adrift.
England's Brian Davis and Ireland's Peter Lawrie were back on eight under.

Gonzalez, tied 11th overnight, fired five birdies in a bogey-free front nine before dropping a shot at the 10th.
He immediately made amends at the long 11th, picked up a further birdie at 17 and signed off with an eagle three at the 476-yard par-five 18th.
"This is a course for short hitters and people who putt well but my 64 tells you I can play here," said the cattle ranch owner.
"The last five weeks I have been playing well and I just hope I can do it again tomorrow.
"I will need all of my concentration and also try to be relaxed."
Broadhurst, meanwhile, began the day with a two-stroke lead and picked up further shots at the 4th and 5th.
A bogey at the 9th took him out in 34 and he was cruising at three clear with three to play.
But the 40-year-old got stuck behind bushes en route to a double bogey on 16 and dropped another shot on 17 before sinking a 30-foot putt for birdie on the last to climb into second.
"I needed that just for me, so I could keep my head up," said Broadhurst.
"I played really well for eight holes and did not miss a shot. I am still in it as I have not done too much damage. I was behind last year and came through, so it can be done.
"It is tough to predict now what the winning score could be, maybe 17 under."
