American Lucas Glover edged into a slim one-shot lead over Australian duo Robert Allenby and Rod Pampling at halfway in the Bay Hill Invitational. Glover fired a second 67 to reach 10 under, with Spain's Sergio Garcia the highest placed European in a tie for fifth at seven under.
Ernie Els slipped to four under after a 73 with Tiger Woods three under and Vijay Singh two under.
Colin Montgomerie (+4) and England's Ian Poulter (+10) missed the cut.
Poulter amassed an 82 to leave his hopes of playing in next month's Masters hanging by a thread.
He currently lies 66th in the world and needs to be in the top 50 after next week's Players' Championship for a place at Augusta.
Poulter was level par overnight but dropped a shot at the second, two at the fifth and suffered further bogeys at 10 and 16.
With the cut already out of reach, the real damage to his card came with a quintuple-bogey eight at the short 17th after dumping two balls into the lake.
Eight-time European number one Montgomerie already has his spot in the Masters but a dismal 77 spelled his third straight missed cut.
Montgomerie was one under after round one but failed to score a single birdie on Friday and bogeys at the 16th, 17th, third, sixth and ninth sent him tumbling to four over.
Fellow Scot Paul Lawrie and England's Brian Davis also crashed out.
Woods, a four-time winner of the title and three times a winner already this season, carded a lacklustre round of 71 that left him down in 25th place.
