Swedes share World Cup advantage
Annika Sorenstam
Sorenstam carded four birdies
World number one Annika Sorenstam and countrywoman Liselotte Neumann carded four birdies apiece to give Sweden a share of the lead at the World Cup.

The duo managed a seven-under-par 65 on the opening day in Sun City, South Africa, to tie with South Korea's Meena Lee and Bo Bae Song.

Wales' Becky Brewerton and Becky Morgan and Scottish pair Catriona Matthew and Janice Moodie share 10th place.

England's Laura Davies and Kirsty Taylor struggled to a round of 71.

Scotland, who finished fourth last year, could have been even higher than 10th on the leaderboard but were let down by bogeys on the 15th and 18th holes.

"It was a disappointing way to end," said Matthew. "But it was so slow and the pins were pretty brutal so under par was okay."

Also despondent was Davies, who said: "I let Kirsty down because I couldn't keep the ball in play enough.

"It was maybe fun for people to watch us today with so many birdies and bogeys, but it wasn't too fun to play.

"It took six hours to get round, which is utter nonsense, and some of the pin positions were out of this world."
