Abery heads qualifiers for Open
Warren Abery
Warren Abery will play at the Open for the first time in July
Warren Abery won the African qualifying tournament in Sun City to secure a place at July's Open at Hoylake.

He will be joined by fellow South Africans Ross Wellington and Thomas Aiken, plus American Bruce Vaughn.

"I am at a loss for words," said Abery, 32, after a second-round 70 gave him a six-under-par 136.

"This is the ultimate achievement, it's what every golfer dreams of - to play at the oldest, most prestigious tournament in the world of golf."

Australasia, Asia, America and Europe will also hold qualifying events.

Abery finished one stroke ahead of Wellington and two ahead of Aiken and Vaughn at the Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club.
