Darren Clarke has criticised Britain's honours decision-makers for snubbing Europe's 2004 Ryder Cup-winning team. And Clarke's Ryder Cup team-mate Paul McGinley of Ireland said he cannot understand why six-time major winner Nick Faldo has not been knighted.
"It's a crying shame. Perhaps the people who give out these honours don't play golf," Ulsterman Clarke told the Sunday Express.
"It's a shame Nick and our sport are ignored in this way," said McGinley.
"The man is a golfing great, with six majors to his name. He has flown the flag for our game with class and is a Ryder Cup hero. Lesser people have been given knighthoods."
Scotland's Colin Montgomerie, who is an OBE, is the only member of Europe's victorious 2004 Ryder Cup-winning team to have been given a gong.
Last week Germany's Bernhard Langer, Europe's skipper at Oakland Hills, became an honorary OBE for his services to golf.
Faldo, who is the most successful Ryder Cup player ever with 25 points in 11 appearances, is an MBE.
