Kenny Perry's blistering form continued as he fired a six-under-par 64 to surge seven shots clear of the field after the third round of the Colonial.

In scorching temperatures Perry enjoyed a second successive bogey-free round at Fort Worth to move within sight of his second Colonial title in three years.

Six birdies evenly split between the front and back nine saw him extend his overnight three-shot lead by four.

Compatriots Billy Mayfair and Steve Stricker are his closest challengers.

Both players carded solid, four-under 66s but could not stay with Perry, who leads the way despite eye problems that have made it difficult for him to see long distances.

A winner at the Bay Hill Invitational earlier this year, the 44-year-old will visit a doctor on Monday to correct his vision problems and get new glasses.

Australia's Peter Lonard fired a 65 to move up to third, but will start Sunday's final round eight strokes off the lead.

World number four Phil Mickelson, who battled to make the cut, had his best round of the tournament with a two-under 68, but is 16 strokes behind Perry.
