England's Laura Davies set her sights on ending her victory drought as she took a one-shot lead after day one of the Chick-fil-A Charity Championship.

The 41-year-old fired eight birdies on her way to a six-under-par 66 to move clear of world leader Annika Sorenstam, Karrie Webb and Guilia Sergas.

Davies won her last tournament 15 months ago and is hoping to notch up her 67 career win in Atlanta.

"This is one of my favourites but a win anywhere would be great," she said.

Davies attributed her new found form to her new putter, which has a Liverpool football team logo emblazoned on the grip.

"I thought since they got to the Champions League final then maybe it would bring me some luck," said Davies, a Liverpool fan.

"This is my fourth putter in five tournaments and it seemed to work."

World number one Sorenstam shot a flawless five-birdie round as she aimed to return to winning ways after breaking her five-tournament winning streak.

"It could have been even better but I'm certainly pleased for the first round," said the Swede.
