Vijay Singh beat Jim Furyk in a play-off to win the Wachovia Championship after a PGA Tour record equalling collapse from Sergio Garcia. Garcia led by six going into Sunday's final round but could only manage a 72 and was hauled in by Singh and Furyk, who both shot 66s.
Garcia missed from six feet to go out of the play-off at the first hole.
Furyk then hooked his drive at the fourth extra hole into a stream to hand victory to Singh.
The Fijian gave himself a few alarms when he put his second shot into a bunker but Furyk, after taking a drop, hit the flag with his approach from the fairway.
The ball bounced well away from the flag and Singh chipped to within a couple of feet before rolling in the simple putt to clinch the tournament.
Garcia, who had led since the first round and seemed odds on for victory at the start of the day, struggled with his swing throughout the round and a double-bogey six on the ninth underlined his problems.
At one point he found himself two behind Singh but battled back to lead once again, only to dump his tee shot into the water at the 17th.
His defeat matched the largest final-round collapse in PGA Tour history, which was last seen by Greg Norman in the 1996 Masters.
"They say you learn more from your losses than your wins and I've got a lot from this week to learn," said Garcia.
Singh's 66 featured an eagle, six birdies and just two dropped shots while Furyk's 66 was very consistent with seven birdies - including one at the 18th to make the play-off - and just a single bogey.
