Furyk captures Sun City play-off
FINAL LEADERBOARD

American Jim Furyk chipped in from 15 feet at the second extra hole of a four-way play-off to win the Sun City Challenge in South Africa.

The former US Open champion holed from the back of the 18th to oust Darren Clarke, Retief Goosen and Adam Scott after they all finished on six under.

Furyk could have won the title after 72 holes but was forced into overtime after bogeying the final hole.

Ernie Els, returning from knee surgery, hit a 75 for ninth place at two over.

Angel Cabrera, joint overnight leader with Scott and South African Tim Clark, capitulated with a final round 80 at the Gary Player Country Club.

Clark needed to hole his third shot at the last to join the play-off group but he duffed his chip and instead finished with a bogey that dropped him back to four-under.

Goosen went out at the first extra hole when he also missed from five feet at the 18th, and the three remaining players then went back to the tee to play the hole again.

Clarke was the only one of the quartet to break par on the final day, with six birdies including a chip-in at the 17th en route to a 69.

He and Scott both found the par-four in regulation but missed their birdie putts, with Furyk settling the issue with a delicate touch from the fringe.

It was his second win of a year that has also produced four second places.

"That's as many times as I want to play the 18th in one day," quipped Furyk, who was one off the lead overnight.

"I'm proud of the way I played it, I hit my drives onto the fairways and I attacked the stick each time.

"It's been a year of close calls, I lost two play-offs and I lost to Tiger Woods on the last hole at Westchester, that's a lot of times to walk off the 18th disappointed."

Of his winning chip, Furyk, who disqualified himself from a South African event in 2001, said: "I had a great lie so I was able to be aggressive.

"It looked great about six or seven feet from the hole, even though it was breaking two or three feet from left to right."
