Local player Brett Wetterich carded a second successive six-under-par 66 to take a one-shot lead at the midway point of the Honda Classic in Florida.

Wetterich, who has only managed one top 10 finish in 48 PGA Tour events, leads two-time US Open winner Lee Janzen, who leapt into contention after a 64 round.

Round one leader Chad Campbell is tied in third place with Robert Damron.

Vijay Singh was in a 15-man group on four-under-par, with England's Justin Rose dropping to 34th after a 72.

Swede Jesper Parnevik, who has not won a title since claiming this tournament in 2001, is five shots off the pace after an eagle and four birdies in his round of 70.

Nick Faldo posted three successive birdies from the third but didn't have another in his round, which included a double bogey at the 15th.

He finished on one-under, with the cut coming at level, one too many for Bernhard Langer, with Mark O'Meara, Paul Azinger and Welshman Phil Price among the others to fail to qualify.

Brian Davis posted a two-under 70 to join Rose on three under, one better than English compatriot Greg Owen, who added a 70 to Thursday's level-par effort.

Wetterich, 31, has never won on the PGA Tour and has only finished in the top-10 once in 48 starts.

"I'm feeling pretty good about myself right now," he said. "I've had two solid rounds of golf.

"It's nice obviously to be in a position where you have a chance to shoot a couple of good rounds and maybe change your life.

"But I'm going to go out there and try to play and stay focused like I did the last two days.

"Winning on the PGA Tour, and all of the benefits that come with that, would definitely be life-changing for me."
