Clarke took a month off earlier this season to be with wife Heather |
Darren Clarke has withdrawn from the WGC American Express Championship and the Las Vegas Invitational as his wife continues her battle against cancer. Clarke is making his first appearance for over a month at this week's Dunhill Links Championship in Scotland.
But he admitted: "My mind is not on the job for obvious reasons."
The Northern Irishman may now need a special exemption to keep his PGA Tour card for next season as he will not have played in the required 15 events.
Manager Andrew Chandler has already spoken to US Tour commissioner Tim Finchem about the issue.
He said: "We'll be asking for a medical extension to his membership."
This week's tournament is only Clarke's 12th European tour event of the season.
He might now decide to play in the Madrid Open (13-16 October) so he can return home quickly if necessary.
