Australians Peter Fowler, David Diaz, Martin Doyle and Nick Flanagan have secured the four places on offer in Melbourne for this year's Open.

The oldest man in the field, Fowler completed the second and final round with a 69.

"This was nothing new to me, but it was quite nerve-wracking," he said after qualifying for his 10th Open.

Flanagan came through a three hole play-off after four players finished one-over par at Kingston Heath.

Fowler added: "If you're going to make it, you've got to play every shot really well and beat a tough field. I wanted to do well here and it has worked."

Flanagan's sudden death qualification was made all the more special given he was suffering from gastroenteritis.

"I have not been in a situation as tense as that for a while. It left me quite weak and a couple of kilograms lighter," he said after beating Nathan Green, Shannon Beck and Andrew Tschudin.
