English trio Graeme Storm, David Howell and Neil Cheetham have battled into contention at the South African Open.

Storm is one stroke behind South Africans Tim Clark, Titch Moore, Hendrik Buhrmann and Tjaart van der Walt, who lead at nine under on 207.

And Howell and Cheetham are also within striking distance at six under, alongside Gregory Havret of France and South African Bobby Lincoln, aged 51.

Darren Clarke shot a 67 to get back in the hunt, but is still six shots back.

"I think having won here before I will sleep easier," said joint-leader Clark.

"The last time I was in this position I shot seven under in the final round so I am certainly going to be very confident."

Clark, who won the tournament in 2002, had four birdies in the only bogey-free round of the day among the leaders.

Howell matched Darren Clarke's 67 to record the joint-lowest round of the day.

But the duo will have their work cut out to catch the South African leaders.
