Annika Sorenstam is on course to win a third successive McDonald's LPGA Championship after a third-round 69 put her well clear of the field.

The Swede, who led by two overnight, extended that margin to five to end on 12 under, with South Korea's Young Kim in second place after shooting a 68.

England's Laura Davies, in second place and just two off the lead at halfway, is even off the lead after a 74

"We are all playing for second place," said Davies.

"Nobody is going to catch Annika now. I just wish I was playing alongside her again on Sunday."

Sorenstam was on 12-under 204 after a round of six birdies.

There is still some work to do on Sunday. You never know what might happen

She opened by holing from five feet for birdie, while playing partner Davies missed a tiny putt for par.

The Swede then went six ahead at the turn.

Davies made four birdies in the first six holes on the back nine, but dropped a shot at the 16th and double-bogeyed at the last.

"Obviously I am very happy with my position," said Sorenstam.

"But there is still some work to do on Sunday. You never know what might happen."

Sorenstam will be halfway towards her goal of becoming the first golfer to win all four majors in one season if she picks up the trophy on Sunday.

British Open champion Karen Stupples is the second best Briton in the field, lying in joint 14th place on two under after a 71, while Scotland's Catriona Matthew is tied for 31st on two over after a fine 69.

Johanna Head and Janice Moodie were both on three over after rounds of 70 and 74 respectively.

Joanne Morley, the sixth British player to make the cut, had a 75 for five over.
