Drummond's golden year has seen him rake in 633,000 |
PGA Championship winner Scott Drummond has been named the Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year after an excellent maiden season on the European Tour. The Scot sealed his first victory in the prestigious event at Wentworth, with a record score of 19 under par.
And a share of seventh at the Volvo Masters at Valderrama on Sunday left him in 23rd on the Order of Merit list.
Drummond was ranked 435th in the world when he triumphed at Wentworth with a final-round 64.
"I have studied the list of past winners and it is a wonderful honour to follow such famous names as Tony Jacklin, Bernard Gallacher, Nick Faldo, Sandy Lyle, Jos Maria Olazbal and Colin Montgomerie and, more recently, Sergio Garcia and Ian Poulter," said Drummond.
 | It's a dream come true - this is unbelievable |
"A year ago, playing on the Challenge Tour, I would never have believed that 12 months on I would be the Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year. "At the start of the season my goal was to retain my card and, if possible, challenge for this award as you only ever have one chance of winning it.
"To be the PGA Champion and to have played in two majors, three World Golf Championships, the World Match Play and the Volvo Masters by the end of my first season on Tour is unbelievable."
Drummond becomes the 10th Scottish winner, the first since Scott Henderson in 1997.
He will be presented with the coveted award at the European Tour's annual dinner, held at Wentworth in May.
