Aree Song celebrated her 18th birthday by taking the lead after the Chick-fil-A Charity Championship third round. Song shot a two-under-par 70 to set up the chance to become the youngest winner in LPGA Tour history.
However, she will have to hold off world number one Annika Sorenstam who is two strokes behind in a group also including Wales' Becky Morgan.
"Hopefully I'll do well," Song said. "I've been around the lead a few times and I hope I can use that experience."
Song, who wore a shirt emblazoned with the words: "I'm 18 and excited", holed two birdies among 16 pars to finish the day on 11-under.
Mi Hyun Kim, a five-time Tour winner, stands between Song and the elite group at 9-under after she shot a 67.
Sorenstam might have found herself even higher up the leaderboard if several putts had not gone astray.
On the back nine alone, Sorenstam missed three birdie putts of less than 10 feet.
Morgan put together an extraordinary round of 68 to move into a tie for third place.
The 29-year-old, renowned for her consistent play, carded an eagle, seven birdies, five bogeys and just five pars to finish on nine under.
"I was absolutely appalling for the first four holes but then gave myself a good talking to," said Morgan.
"It certainly was one of the oddest rounds I've ever played, although it was quite fun having such a mix. But I hope it's back to normal tomorrow."
