Davis boosts cup hopes
Brian Davis
Brian Davis' bid to force his way into the Ryder Cup reckoning was helped by a three-under 69 at the USPGA.

It could have been even better, as the Londoner bogeyed the 18th to fall back to six under at Whistling Straits.

Luke Donald also did his cup prospects a power of good, although he too will be disappointed with his finish.

The 26-year-old Englishman was seven under after a birdie at the 16th, but a poor tee shot at 17 and three putts at the last pulled him back to five under.

Also on that score is Padraig Harrington. The Irishman signed for a level-par 72 on Saturday that was far from steady par golf.

There were six birdies on the 33-year-old's card, as well as four bogeys and a double bogey.

Davis made a superb start to his round, plundering three straight birdies from the third.

Becalmed around the turn, the 30-year-old then bogeyed the 11th before picking up two more shots at the 13th and 16th.

A poor approach was to blame for the dropped shot at the last, but Davis refused to be too downcast.
