Woods captures title
WCG-Accenture Match Play Championship final

Result:
(1) Tiger Woods won 2&1 (6) David Toms

Woods began the second 18 holes at Carlsbad by holing a 15ft-birdie putt to increase his lead to 5-up.

But Toms made it down in two at the short 2nd to pull Woods back to 4-up after 20.

And he made it two birdies in a row at the 3rd, while Woods could only make par, to put himself back in contention.

The next two holes were halved, but Woods re-established his four-hole lead at the day's 24th hole, only to bogey the 26th to have his lead cut to three.

Woods then bogeyed the ninth (27th) for the third time this week to see his lead cut to two after a wild second that missed the green by miles.

After the 28th was halved Toms produced a stunning second with a wood from the fairway at the 29th on his way to cut Woods' lead to just one.

Woods produced a couple of stunning shots on the 31st to take his lead back out to two holes, only for Toms to haul him back to one on the 33rd.

But Woods was not to be denied, finally capturing victory on the penultimate hole.

First 18 holes:

Toms made a poor start, bogeying the par-five 1st while the world number one made par.

Woods then recorded his first birdie of the 36-hole final to go 2-up.

But sixth seed Toms fought back against his fellow American with a birdie of his own at the 4th, sinking an impressive 18-foot putt.

Woods re-established a two-hole lead at the next, however, when Toms could only make a four at the short par three.

The 6th hole was halved, but Woods extended his lead at the 7th with Toms making another bogey after a wayward tee shot.

After halving the 8th, it was Woods' turn to bogey while his opponent made par, pegging him back to 2-up at the turn.

But Toms repaid the favour at the 10th, with his fourth bogey of the round, allowing Woods to go 3-up again.

Both men birdied the 11th and also shared the next two holes with pars, but Toms then suffered another bogey at 14.

The pair halved the final four holes of the first round, leaving Woods in a commanding position.
