Lickliter did not drop a shot in his final round |
Frank Lickliter II survived a final-hole scare to win his third USPGA title in the Chrysler Classic of Tucson. Lickliter finished a bogey-free final round of 69 with a remarkable par, getting up and down from a lake at the 18th hole to defeat Chad Campbell by two strokes.
The 33-year-old led Campbell by a stroke when he knocked his last tee shot into the water.
But fortunately for Lickliter, playing partner Campbell then followed him into the lake en route to a bogey and his second career runner-up finish.
Campbell had drawn level with Lickliter with a birdie at 15th hole but bogeyed holes 16 and 18 for a five-under 67.
Lickliter, who led over each of the final three rounds, finished on 19 under with Campbell on 17 under.
Brendan Pappas was a stroke further back with Bob Tway and Aaron Barber one shot further behind.
