Woods, who has announced he will play in the Buick Open next month, saw his run of Major titles stopped with a poor Open performance. And after a disastrous 10-over-par third round at Muirfield earlier this month he is seeking a rapid return to winning ways. And he sees the Buick Open, where he will compete for the fourth time in his career, as the ideal place to start. Woods said: "I want to have a long career and play for 30 or 40 years. To do that you have to stop bad habits creeping into your game. "
But the 26-year-old insisted his third-round 81 in Scotland was more a result of the unforgiving wind and rain than a deterioration in technique. "I was only two shots off the lead going into the weekend but the weather was brutal for everyone on Saturday and I ended up shooting a round of 81," he said. "I don't think anyone can prepare for conditions like that. With the wind blowing that hard it magnified my bad shots, that's all." Conditions are likely to be more friendly in Japan when Woods makes his third appearance in the Dunlop Phoenix event in November. And fellow American and defending champion David Duval and Spanish ace Sergio Garcia will be competing with Woods for the top purse of 40 million yen (215,000). Woods said: "I'm really excited about coming to Japan again, the Japanese fans are incredible, they really love their golf. "David (Duval) told me the golf course was very difficult and a lot of fun to play." | Top Golf stories now: Links to more Golf stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
