Seaman gets the chop
By Chris Charles

David Seaman's new hair cut

David Seaman has finally done the decent thing and parted company with his infamous ponytail.

The former Arsenal and England goalkeeper reluctantly agreed to have the chop in aid of charity.

Seaman, 42, who lost his locks live on TV, exclaimed: "That's different!", before quickly adding: "I like it, but it feels weird at the back!"

For years 'Safe Hands' was ridiculed by the media and opposition fans, who believed the look was more suited to the star of a blue movie.

Brian Clough once observed: "That Seaman is a handsome young man but he spends too much time looking in his mirror, rather than at the ball. You can't keep goal with hair like that."

But now the tragic tresses are history.

Seaman, who faced the scissors of top hairdresser Charles Worthington on Wednesday's This Morning programme, said he first adopted the ponytail look after a spot of bother during an Arsenal game.

And this is how things used to be

He revealed: "We were playing Coventry and I came for a cross, but my hair got in my eyes and I missed the ball completely. Luckily I got away with it!

"I thought either I've got to get it cut off or put it in a band, so I put it in a band - much to the amusement of my team-mates!"

Seaman, who is giving his ponytail to his daughter so she can take it into school, has raised thousands of pounds for Cancer Research's Bobby Moore Fund as a result of the chop.

Sadly he wouldn't reveal how much it would take to remove the furry caterpillar from his top lip.
