Hollywood beckons for David Beckham after he agreed to take on the challenging role of...David Beckham in a new football movie.
The Real Madrid star will be joined in Goal! by team-mates Zinedine Zidane and Ronaldo, along with Alan Shearer and Wayne Rooney.
The England captain is no stranger to the world of film, having been linked with a part in the Pink Panther, not to mention numerous appearances in TV adverts and a cameo role in Bend It Like Beckham.
But will Goal! mark the start of a successful movie career? We look at other pictures he might pop up in.
THE GODFATHER
Our hero plays the part of young Beckioni, drummed out of his Manchester Family by Alexio Fergusoni, aka The Godfather.
After a fierce gun battle, Alexio - assisted by the Nevillo brothers - brings out the hair-dryer and poor Beckioni knows he is done for.
One flying boot later and he finds himself exiled in Spain, to be replaced by the new kid in town - Waynio Roonio.
Alexio, meanwhile, goes from strength to strength, appearing in Bugsy Malone, where his Family take on the Wengerios in a classic food fight.
BATTLESTAR GALACTICOS
 You talkin' to me?! |
Becks teams up with fellow Galacticos Raul, Ronaldo, Zidane and Roberto Carlos.
Armed with cans of fizzy pop they prepare to take on evil alien twins Ray Wilkins and Pierluigi Collina, who are baldly going where no aliens have gone before.
The plot involves several intriguing twists and turns, culminating in a showdown inside the chrome-domed enemy spaceship.
Just as the Galacticos appear to be getting on top, nice guy Wilkins disarms them with his charm and sideways glances (he doesn't know how to glance forwards) and Collina sees red, luring them into an early acid bath.
THE CRYING GAME
Beckham plays a sexy hairdresser with a penchant for the clubs.
With his long blonde hair, painted nails, sarong and diamond earrings, he proves a big hit with the fellas, until one night his true identity is revealed and he is unmasked as (gasp) a man.

Return of the King

MY FAIR LADY
Beckham, buoyed by his success as an actor, decides to move into directing.
"Wouldn't it be luvverly if Mrs Beckham took on the role of Ms Doolittle," he muses - "just fink of the money she'd save on acting lessons".
But our David lands himself in hot water when recruiting former Manchester City rival George Weah to play the bookish Professor Henry Higgins - after namesake Alex falls off his chair during casting.
"No," says Doolittle, "I said a librarian, not a Liberian."
That's why he got his hair cut |
