Flair of the dog
Simply Fabulous streaks away from Tiny Tim
Simply the best: Dog beats horse

You'd have to be barking to have predicted it, but four-legged bragging rights have gone to the dogs after a hound beat a horse in a race at Kempton Park.

Greyhound Simply Fabulous streaked away and equine entry Tiny Tim was left with 'neigh' chance.

The eight-year-old under-dog beat its younger rival over two furlongs, or 400m, at Kempton Park on Wednesday night.

The race was a warm-up for the respective horse and greyhound Derbys taking place on Saturday.

Bookies made the Tiny Tim the 8-11 favourite with Simply Fabulous, who had won 14 races from 35 starts, quoted at evens.

In the event, the little fella romped away with it, finishing in 23.29 seconds ahead of its rival - that's seven horse lengths (or 15 in doggy language).

But there will be a chance for horse-kind to regain some pride on Saturday, 12 June.

Simply Fabulous with Tiny Tim's jockey Fergal Sweeney
We know jockeys are small, but that's ridiculous!

Then 40 horses and riders will take on 300 human runners over a 22-mile course in the unique William Hill Man versus Horse Marathon.

Horses have won all the previous 24 runnings of the race, but two years ago there was under a minute between the leading runners.

And if the four-legged stars triumph again you can guarantee it won't just be the horses with long faces.
