1701 FOOTBALL: Chelsea complete the signing of winger Juan Mata from Valencia on a five-year deal.

1653 CRICKET: Keith Bradshaw is to stand down as MCC secretary and chief executive. The MCC Committee met at Lord's today to confirm that it had "reluctantly accepted" the resignation of Mr Bradshaw for family reasons.

1650 FOOTBALL: Manchester City sign former Arsenal midfielder Samir Nasri on a four-year deal.

1649 FOOTBALL: The Argentine Football Association (AFA) lifts a four-year ban on fans attending away matches in the four divisions below the top flight. The ban was put in place in July 2007 amid rising violence both inside and outside stadiums that culminated in a fan's death after a promotion play-off between Nueva Chicago and Tigre.

1255 FOOTBALL: Liverpool are to open football academies in India in an initial bid to reach out to fans in Asia and ultimately beyond. The first academy in India will be set up in New Delhi this October with former England and Liverpool midfielder Steve McMahon as the chief coach.

1245 FOOTBALL: Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp says he hopes midfielder Luka Modric will play against Manchester City at the weekend: "I'm not bothered about anyone else," said Redknapp. "He is here, we love him, he is a great player and I need him back playing. "The chairman has made it clear that he is not for sale so he has to crack on with it now and I'm sure he will. "Will he play tomorrow? Possibly. We will see how his hamstring is on Thursday. 1225 ATHLETICS: Former Olympic champion Justin Gatlin has arrived in Daegu for the World Championships suffering from frostbite. The 29-year-old, who won 100m gold at the Athens Games in 2004, said he contracted the problem after going into a cryogenic chamber with wet socks.

1217 FOOTBALL: Derby County defender John Brayford is on the verge of signing a new three-year contract. The 23-year-old, who moved to Pride Park on a three-year contract in May 2010, was the club's player of the season in 2010/11.

Cole turned down an offer from Spurs in order to move to Merseyside last summer, but the switch has not worked well for the Londoner, who failed to establish himself as a first-team regular last season.

1144 JUDO: Britain's leading judoka Euan Burton looks ahead to his fight against Islam Bozbayev of Kazakhstan at the World Judo Championships in Paris on Thursday, in what he admits could be his last appearance at this event. Burton is ranked sixth in the world in the under-81kg weight category and represents Britain's best chance of an Olympic judo medal at the London Games.

1137 FOOTBALL: Hamburg have confirmed the signing of defender Slobodan Rajkovic for an undisclosed fee from Chelsea. The 22-year-old Serbian passed a medical yesterday and put pen to paper on a four-year contract with the German club today.

1131 FOOTBALL: Dundee United have confirmed the signing of striker Lauri Dalla Valle on loan from Fulham until January.

1126 FOOTBALL: Atletico Madrid have given Uruguay striker, and former Manchester United frontman, Diego Forlan, permission to negotiate a possible transfer. The Spanish media are already linking him with a move to Inter Milan.
