"To lead Somerset to their first championship title would be fantastic honour," Trescothick told the Press Association. "We are back in the hunt."
1122: BOXING - Amateur boxing organisation AIBA is to set up a professional programme to enhance its standing within the sport, SAYS AIBA President Wu Ching-Kuo. "I am determined to launch professional boxing under the umbrella of AIBA so that we will be the true and respected leader of our sport, and not any other organisation," Wu said in a statement. "We will allow these APB [AIBA Professional Boxing] boxers to compete in the Olympic Games with limited terms and conditions and we plan to make this dream come true from the Rio 2016 Olympic Games."

1112: CRICKET - Ian Bell's controversial 'non dismissal' on day three of the second Test between England and India subverted the laws of the game and had nothing to do with the 'spirit of cricket', reckons former England captain Michael Atherton. "[India captain] MS Dhoni will be hailed as a great sportsman for his actions and there is no doubt that by withdrawing his appeal, he rescued what has so far been a hard-fought and good-spirited contest," Atherton wrote in The Times . "[But] in this instance, some spurious notion of the spirit of the game has actually subverted the laws of the game, and, therefore the natural progression of the game."
1028: FOOTBALL - Arsenal legend Thierry Henryhas hit out after he was denied the chance to make a farewell appearance for his former club in the Emirates Cup.
