1946: MODERN PENTATHLON - GB number four Freyja Prentice pulls off a surprise result. She outperforms her Great Britain team-mates, finishing eighth at the European Championships in Manor Park - a result which attains her the Olympic qualifying standard for London 2012. World number one Lena Schoneborn of Germany claimed gold, with Adrienn Toth (Hungary) in second and Victoria Tereshuk (Ukraine) completing the podium.

1942: ATHLETICS - Jenny Meadows wins the 800m at the UK trials in a time of 2:02.30. It is her first senior title. "I've always wanted to win this title. I'm really thrilled and really proud." Martyn Rooney is up next in the 400m on BBC Two and the BBC Sport website.

1450: FOOTBALL -Former AC Milan goalkeeper Andrea Pazzaglia has died at the age of 51 . Pazzaglia played for the Italian giants between 1989 and 1991, winning one European Cup, one Italian Super Cup, two European Super Cups and two Intercontinental Cups under manager Arrigo Sacchi.

1439: BOXING - Britain's David Haye talks up a rematch with Wladimir Klitschko, despite the one-sided defeat at the hands of the Ukrainian earlier this month. "Hopefully, Wlad looks at the numbers," said Haye, who still plans to retire before his 31st birthday in October . "There's no-one out there for him. Look at the sums. It makes economic sense.
