Isle of Man Sports Awards 2010 nominations announced

David Knight won the EWC title in 2011 and two British titles

The nominations for the 2010 Isle of Man Sports Awards have been revealed.

Seven athletes are in with the chance of picking up two prizes at this year's ceremony, due to be held at the Villa Marina on Thursday 14 April.

There are 15 awards in total with the night culminating in the naming of the Sportsman and Sportswoman of the year.

The Lifetime Achievement and IOM Achievement Awards will be announced on the night plus two additions to the Manx Sports Hall of Fame.

Last year cyclist Mark Cavendish was named Sportsman of the Year with motorcyclist Carolyn Sells picking up top sportswoman.

The guest speaker will be World and European gymnastic champion Beth Tweddle.

Gary Corkhill, vice Chairman of Isle of Man Sport, said: "It has been another exceptional year for Manx sport.

"It's pleasing to see younger athletes doing so well. Fifteen-year-old Aalin George has been named as Great Britain's young archer of year, and we have a number of young athletes doing very, very well at a national level.

"The Commonwealth Games in Delhi has also raised the profile of Isle of Man sport as it is one of the few events where we can compete as a nation. We picked up bronze medals in cycling and shooting," Corkhill added.
