Le Noury opens with personal best

Stuart Le Noury opened Guernsey's walking club championship on Sunday 6 April with a convincing victory.

Le Noury led from the start to beat his previous best time by almost one minute and cross the finishing line in 24 minutes and 59 seconds.

He covered the first two kilometres quickly to stay well ahead of his nearest challenger, Jason Le Noury.

Despite slowing down over the latter half of the race he held on to dip under 25 minutes in the 5000m walk.

Third place for the majority of the race was held by Phil Lockwood, with past champion Rob Elliott within striking distance.

Lockwood passed 3000m point in close to his best time but then slowed down and was overtaken by Elliott with 500 m left.

He held on well to finish only two seconds down on Elliott with a new personal best time of 27.44.

Jayne Le Noury took first place in the women's championship, leaving Rose Druckes in second place.

Jayne improved her recent Guernsey age best time by 24 seconds.
