Terry Venables pledges to stay at Leeds for the time being despite the sale of Jonathan Woodgate, according to Friday's papers.

The former England manager is prepared to stay in charge of the troubled club for the weekend tie against Everton.

The Telegraph:
'LEEDS IN CRISIS AFTER 9M DEAL FOR WOODGATE'

But the Sun warns that "he may go tomorrow" as the crisis mounts at the troubled Premiership club.

The Daily Star is more generous about Venables' longevity at Elland Road, insisting he will remain in charge "for the next 48 hours at least" and decide his future at the end of the weekend.

Venables bears the brunt of a scathing attack from the Daily Express, which accuses him of reneging on his promise to fans to quit if Woodgate was sold.

To add further emphasis, emblazoned across the Express' back pages is an irate Leeds fan holding the banner "We want the truth".

The Daily Mail suggests that only club chairman Peter Ridsdale's immense powers of persuasion have kept the current manager at the helm through this latest crisis.

The broadsheets focus more on the sale of Woodgate and less on the future of Venables.

Outside of Elland Road, the Daily Telegraph turns its attention to the ensuing debate over London's bid for the 2012 Olympics.

After saying the Government was putting a decision on hold on Thursday, it reveals the Government will now give its full backing to it if it can guarantee some provisos from mayor Ken Livingstone.

In other news, the Daily Express says Lyon are suing Mohamed al Fayed for 3.1m in a dispute over money reportedly owed for Fulham striker Steve Marlet.
