The Anfield outfit are currently waging a war on two fronts - against those making hay with Michael Owen's gambling revelations and the Blades.

The Daily Express quotes Sheffield United assistant boss Keith Blackwell as saying: Liverpool are sore losers - we've got them rattled."

Gerard Houllier's riposte in the Daily Star is to describe Liverpool's Bramall Lane bogeymen as "cheap and mean".

There's nothing cheap about Michael Owen's reported losses when it comes to betting, but Houllier is right behind his star striker.

"Leave him alone," is the headline in the Daily Mail, which says the Frenchman is telling Owen: "Don't let them destroy you."

The Express leads with a firm of bookmakers claiming that footballers are "flouting" FA rules by betting on their own games.

The odds are shortening on Jonathan Woodgate making a �10m move from Leeds to Newcastle, according to the Guardian.

But the story that really catches the eye is The Mirror claiming Manchester City wants Dutch striker Pierre van Hooijdonk.

The former Nottingham Forest bad boy would certainly form an interesting forward partnership with Nicolas 'Le Sulk' Annelka...
