The News of the World opts to focus on the off-field allegations surrounding Michael Owen.

"My pain", it leads, quoting the young Liverpool striker as saying: "I have done nothing wrong."

Back page favourite David O'Leary is in the spotlight of the Sunday Mirror.

The tabloid asserts that the former Leeds boss is having every one of his transfer deals scrutinised for bad practice by his old employers, who hope to avoid paying �2.3m in compensation.

The Sunday Express turns its attention back to current Leeds player Jonathan Woodgate, linking him to an �8m move to Newcastle.

The Sunday Telegraph's leading football angle concerns England's search for a new assistant coach.

Sven Goran Eriksson will appoint either Brian Kidd or David Platt to the role, according to the broadsheet.

In other sports news, The Sunday Times reveals that jockey Kieren Fallon is battling the booze, which he says has made his life a "misery".

The Mail on Sunday, meanwhile, asserts that England's World Cup cricket squad are divided on whether or not they should play in Zimbabwe.

And the wildest rumour of the day....
Man Utd are to make a �12m close-season move for James Beattie, according to Sunday Mirror.
