A miserable looking Gerard Houllier adorns a number of broadsheets and tabloids as the pressure builds on the Liverpool manager. The Daily Telegraph quotes the Frenchman insisting "Liverpool can win the title" during his reign and that the club is merely going through a "blip" despite an 11-match winless streak in the Premiership. The Independent use pictures before and after that dire run to sum up the mood of a normally smiley, but now a grim-faced Houllier with the words "what a difference 10 games can make". It is not all misery for Houllier apparently, who is about to start dipping in the transfer market to ease his woes. The Daily Express focuses on the fact the Anfield boss is willing to shell out 8m for West Ham forward Freddie Kanoute. The Times barely even touches on Liverpool's plight, instead using its back pages to focus on the ensuing World Cup debate. The newspaper runs a story on ECB chairman David Morgan calling for English players to have the right to boycott tournament matches in Zimbabwe. Lee Bowyer still takes his fair share of the headlines as his debut for new employers West Ham edges ever nearer. The Daily Mail leads on the controversial midfielder, with Hammers manager Glenn Roeder asking to be blamed if the player proves to be failure. Premiership transfer speculation is rife throughout the back pages of the remaining tabloids. The Mirror reveals that Chelsea boss Claudio Ranieri is finally ready to sell striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and has called on Barcelona to make an offer. The Daily Star go with the same story, but the main focus of their attention is further north with Leeds striker Robbie Fowler. That red top insists the former Liverpool front man's move to Manchester City is back on.
