Diouf aims for star status
El Hadji Diouf of Liverpool and Senegal
El Hadji Diouf is determined to succeed on Merseyside
African Footballer of the Year El Hadji Diouf talks to World Football's Osasu Obayiuwana and says he wants to become 'bigger than the Beatles' in Liverpool...

"Winning this award is a great honour for me, Senegal and Africa" says Diouf.

"It's great to be considered amongst such African legends as Abedi Pele, who I saw playing many, many times. To be part of that group is a dream come true.

"I am my own man, and I have my own personality" the controversial star went on.

"I enjoy life and having fun. What's important is that I love my fans and take football very seriously. When I am on the field I always do my best. As long as my friends and family are behind me that's all I need. Like everyone else I am just a normal human being.

"I want to succeed at Liverpool. I think the club has a fantastic future, the whole club is amazing. I love it there - I want to be as good as the Beatles!"
