Mexico World Cup coach Ricardo La Volpe is to stand down and take up a managerial job in Europe, according to the Mexican Football Federation. The Argentine had set his sights on the last eight in Germany, but Mexico failed to achieve that as his side lost 2-1 to Argentina in the second round.
Mexico beat Iran, drew with Angola and lost to Portugal in the group stages.
La Volpe took over as national coach in October 2003 and prior to the World Cup presided over just two defeats.
