Aruna Dindane scored for the Ivory Coast from the penalty spot |
World Cup debutants the Ivory Coast drew 1-1 with Chile in a friendly played in France on Tuesday. Aruna Dindane scored for the Elephants after 72 minutes but a minute later, the Ivory Coast's Didier Zokora was sent off for a second yellow card.
Chile equalised six minutes later with Humberto Suazo scoring from the penalty spot.
Ivory Coast coach Henri Michel said it had been important to testing the team against a different style of play.
"We played the Swiss, which was a very well organized team," Michel said.
"Chile was a different proposition, as it is a much more technical team."
Ivory Coast have one remaining friendly, against Slovenia also in France on 4 June, before heading to Germany, where they are in Group C with Holland, Argentina and Serbia-Montenegro.
Chelsea striker Didier Drogba, who scored nine goals in World Cup qualifying for the Elephants, went close with a fourth-minute free kick which went narrowly over Miguel Pinto's goal.
Drogba's combination play with PSV Eindhoven striker Aruna Kone posed problems, but the Chile defence held firm.
Drogba was replaced at halftime by Dindane.
Dindane and Kone both had shots saved by Pinto shortly after the interval, and Zokora blazed over in the 67th.
Chile's main attacking threat centred around Luis Jimenez, a creator of several goals for Series A top-scorer Luca Toni at Fiorentina this season.
Dindane was pulled back by defender Ismael Fuentes and referee Olivier Lamarre awarded a spot kick.
But Chile hit back almost immediately, when Manuel Irurra Urrutia hit the crossbar in the 76th. Moments later, Jorge Valdivia fouled Suazo, and he converted past keeper Jean-Jacques Tizie.
