World Cup hosts Germany are out of their own tournament after two goals in the dying moments of extra-time sent Italy into the final. An enthralling match seemed certain to go to penalties - until Fabio Grosso and Alessandro Del Piero netted to send the Azzurri into their first final since 1994.
BBC pundits Ian Wright and Lee Dixon gave their views on Tuesday night's great World Cup tie in Dortmund.
You've got to give credit to Italy in the first place, they've been positive all the way through.
 | Grosso's celebration was great - almost Marco Tardelli-esque |
It was a fantastic pass from Andrea Pirlo to set up Fabio Grosso for the opening goal. He's made sure that Grosso's got all the time in the world to curl it over.
It's a fantastic finish.
And a great celebration, it's almost Marco Tardelli-esque. He can't believe it, he's just taken his country to the World Cup final.
Just imagine, the emotion and the adrenalin pumping through him. I can only dream of doing something like that.
Normally you'd think that Italy, being 1-0 up, would hold it and see the game out, but they have gone for it.
Of course, when you're talking about penalty shoot-outs the one team you don't want to be facing is the Germans. Especially if you're Italy because their record could be even worse than England's.
I'm going to go for Italy to win the tournament.
They're strong at the back and they've got forwards who can come on and change things and in Gattuso they've got one of the players of the tournament.
At the end of normal time, I thought that for 0-0 it was a brilliant game of football.
 | Jurgen Klinsmann has got to stay as coach |
The game had everything except for goals in normal time. Then into extra-time, it was end to end and you could see the teams getting tired and stretched as the game went on.
It was a brilliant advert for the World Cup, even though it was low scoring.
Everyone was getting behind Germany and the crowd were fantastic.
But the Italians have just crept up on everybody in this tournament.
They've got such a strong back four and they've got Gennaro Gattuso in front of them - and now it looks like they've got people who can score goals.
The Germans have been absolutely brilliant.
I think Jurgen Klinsmann has got to stay as coach, because I think he's done a superb job.
He got criticised before the tournament started and now everybody wants to make him king.
Ian Wright and Lee Dixon were speaking on BBC One's Match of the Day programme on Tuesday night.
