Germany coach Jurgen Klinsmann said his young team had made the whole country proud despite an agonising extra-time World Cup semi-final defeat to Italy. Italy scored twice in the final minute and Klinsmann said: "We are hugely disappointed but you must compliment our team, they are a young team.
"The spirit and character they showed is amazing. They made a country proud.

He added: "The boys are sitting there and have a bitter pill to swallow.
"We had our chances to score first, but we didn't manage it. Then they took theirs.

"I think we can be proud of this team," said the striker who currently leads the race for the golden boot with five goals.
