England's women have Walsall World Cup date with Turkey

Women's football

The England women's team is returning to Walsall's Banks's Stadium to face Turkey in a World Cup qualifier on Thursday July 29.

Previously Hope Powell's side beat Belarus 4-0 in Walsall in 2007 in front of 8,632 spectators.

"The last time we played there the fans really came out in force," recalled team manager Powell.

England are aiming to make their fourth successive major finals and have already beaten Turkey 3-0 on the road.

That helped them into second position in group five with four wins out of four, trailing Spain by three points but with two games in hand.

To be chosen as the venue is something we're very proud of

Walsall chief executive Roy Whalley

Next week England travel to Malta for their next qualifying game before visiting the table-topping Spaniards in June.

"To be chosen as the venue for such a big game is something we are very proud of," said Walsall chief executive Roy Whalley.

"I'm sure there will be a large crowd in attendance here at the Banks's Stadium to cheer England on to victory."
