Sunderland Ladies stated their title intent with a 4-0 thrashing of Tranmere Rovers at Victoria Park in Poulton.
Sophie Williams' strike gave the visitors a first-half lead and second-half goals from Sarah Danby, Jordan Nobbs and Steph Bannon sealed the win.
Sunderland manager Mick Mulhern said: "It wasn't pretty to watch but the pitch and conditions made it difficult.
"To do well in this league sometimes you have to scrap. We scored four goals away from home which speaks volumes."
Sunderland lie in second place in the Women's Premier League Northern Division, two points behind Lincoln with three games in hand.
