Goalkeeper Helen Alderson made some key saves but could not stop Sunderland from falling to defeat |
Sunderland's title hopes took a dent after Tranmere scored an injury-time winner to send them tumbling to a surprise 3-2 defeat on Sunday. A well-placed free-kick from Rovers defender Lindsay Smith was enough to seal a late win for the hosts and end Sunderland's nine game unbeaten run.
Natalie Gutteridge and Sarah Danby had given Sunderland the lead but Vicky Abbott twice pegged them back.
Next up for the ladies is the trip to Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday 30 March.
