Blackburn shooting star Katie Anderton struck twice as Rovers handed the Women's Premier League bottom club Charlton Athletic a 6-0 beating.
Anderton took her season's tally to 17, while the Addicks have now conceded 23 goals in their four league matches.
Victory put Rovers a point from second placed Watford, whose 4-3 win over Doncaster Belles took them within three points of leaders Bristol Academy.
England winger Sue Smith scored in Leeds United's 2-1 win over Birmingham.
Smith played 45 minutes as a substitute in England's 4-0 win against Belarus on Saturday then returned to Yorkshire to help her club side preserve their unbeaten League record.
Women's Premier League
Blackburn Rovers 6-0 Charlton Athletic
Anderton set Rovers on the way to a comprehensive victory with the opening goal after 12 minutes.
Natalie Preston and Caroline Dixon then scored within a minute of each other shortly before half-time.
Another two quick-fire goals, scored by Anderton and Dixon midway through the second half, killed off any hopes of a Charlton fight-back.
And the Addicks' misery was completed when Stacey Daniel grabbed goal number six in the final minute.
Watford 4-3 Doncaster Rovers Belles
Watford had to come from behind after Liz Hansen had given the Belles a 10th-minute lead.
Emma Thomas equalised 10 minutes later, then a five-minute goal rush just before half-time proved decisive.
Ashlee Hincks with a penalty, Helen Lander and Hayley Kemp were on target to give the home side a three-goal advantage.
Victory looked a formality, but the Hornets were stung as Vicky Exley and Sarah Owen pulled goals back in the last 15 minutes.
And with the home defence looking jittery, a Donny free-kick almost led to a dramatic equaliser seconds before the final whistle.
Leeds United 2-1 Birmingham City
Left winger Smith shot Leeds ahead after 38 minutes, but Blues striker Amy McCann levelled the scores 21 minutes into the second half.
With 17 minutes left on the clock, however, Olivier Thackray hit what proved to be the winner for the home side.
Victory in only their third League match of the season took Leeds, with several games in hand on all the teams above them apart from Arsenal, up to sixth place in the table.
