Watford thrashed Women's Premier League leaders Bristol Academy 6-2 to climb up to second place.
The Hornets, now just three points behind Bristol, leapfrogged Blackburn Rovers, who drew 4-4 at Leeds United.
Elsewhere there were first League wins of the season for Cardiff City, Doncaster Belles and Chelsea.
And Cardiff's 4-0 victory away at Charlton Athletic leaves the Addicks still pointless and goalless at the bottom of the table.
In delayed Women's Premier League Cup ties, Arsenal and Everton progressed at the expense of Southern Division clubs Newquay and West Ham respectively.
Women's Premier League
Watford 6-2 Bristol Academy
Bristol started and ended the scoring but were blitzed in between goals from Kerry Bartlett and Nicki Watts.
Watford hit their first five goals in the space of 28 first-half minutes to destroy the league leaders.
Lisa Burrows, Ashlee Hincks (2), Helen Lander and Ellen Maggs were on target before the break and Lander added her second midway through the second half.
Leeds United 4-4 Blackburn
Blackburn staged a tremendous fightback to snatch a point after being 4-1 down with little more than 20 minutes remaining.
Leeds led 3-1 at the interval with Jess Clarke hitting the opening goal and Amanda Barr bagging a brace either side of Katie Anderton's reply for Rovers.
When the visitors then lost Jane Eadie with a suspected broken ankle and went a further goal behind through Sue Smith, defeat looked a certainty.
But after Natalie Preston had reduced the arrears, Anderton - with her 15th goal of the season - gave Blackburn hope.
And, with four minutes left on the clock, Preston grabbed her second goal of the afternoon to claim a well-earned point.
Chelsea 4-1 Liverpool
An Ellen White goal after just two minutes put Chelsea on the road to victory.
Eni Aluko and Dunia Susi scored either side of half-time to increase the home side's advantage, but Liverpool hit back with a Cheryl Foster penalty.
Blues wrapped up victory 15 minutes from time though, Katie Owen getting their decisive fourth goal.
Doncaster Rovers Belles 2-0 Birmingham City
Donny won with goals at either end of the game, Emily Heckler scoring after six minutes and Carla Cantrell hitting the clinching goal six minutes from time.
Charlton Athletic 0-4 Cardiff City
Charlton's goal difference slumped to -17 after a third defeat in as many league games.
Terri Beddows and Natasha Harding gave Cardiff a two-goal half-time advantage and the score was doubled through Loren Dykes and Lauren Townsend after the break.
Women's Premier League Cup, Round Two
Newquay 1-11 Arsenal
Rachel Yankey, Jayne Ludlow and Lianne Sanderson all hit hat-tricks as the Gunners gave Southern Division newcomers Newquay a real pounding.
Reserve team players Lizzie Wicks and Faye March added Arsenal's other goals and Helen Woods hit the net for the Cornish side.
West Ham 0-4 Everton
Fara Williams scored twice and there were also goals for Amy Kane and Jody Handley in a comfortable win for Everton.
Kelly Ling got West Ham's late consolation goal.
