York City have signed former Wales Under-21 utility player Alex Lawless from Forest Green Rovers.
The 26-year-old can play at right-back and central or right midfield.
Lawless spent three seasons at Forest Green, having started his career as a trainee at Fulham, he also had a one-year spell at Torquay United.
"He's certainly got the qualities we need here at York City. I've been after Alex for a while," City manager Martin Foyle told BBC Radio York.
"He's a great all-rounder and technically very good."
Foyle also added he was hoping to secure further signings soon.
Lawless scored for Forest Green in their 4-3 home defeat by Derby County in last season's FA Cup, when a late penalty saved the Championship side's blushes.
His last appearance at Kit Kat Crescent, as a Rovers player, resulted in his season ending early as he broke his leg.
Having been substituted, an X-ray after the game showed he had suffered a hairline fracture.
