'Weak-hearted' York anger Foyle

Martin Foyle
Foyle was manager of Port Vale for three years from 2004

York City manager Martin Foyle labelled his players "weak-hearted" after they surrendered the lead to lose 2-1 at home to Altrincham.

York led at half-time but Foyle listed a variety of serious flaws in his side as they capitulated after the break.

"We couldn't get near players in midfield and the passing was poor," he told BBC Radio York as his side sank to within four points of the drop zone.

"It just shows we're a little bit weak-hearted at the club."

Foyle hopes to bring in two or three players when the January transfer window opens as he becomes more concerned at the threat of relegation.

"When the games come on and you creep down into that bottom four or five anything can happen," he said.

"Something's got to be done. Yes, we're still in two cups but the league worries me.

"Teams underneath have got games in hand and (players) are still talking about promotion.

"Supporters don't lie and you look at their reaction and I just hope it's a wake-up call for some of the players in the changing room."

Foyle is also concerned at City's poor home form over the past two years.

"They don't like playing here for some reason," he added. "They're scared, and the minute a goal goes in, you can see four or five (players) hiding a little bit and that's a worry.

"The players are decent lads, but decent lads don't win you anything."

York's next game is at home to league leaders Burton Albion on New Year's Day.
