Stam scored one goal in 112 appearances for Oldham Athletic
Yeovil have signed ex-Oldham defender Stefan Stam on a two-year deal.
Stam, who played more than 100 games for Oldham, has since been playing for Ermis Aradippou in Cyprus.
The 29-year-old Dutchman, who was released by the Latics in May after five years at the club, was manager Terry Skiverton's top summer target.
"The manager told me what he wanted to do and I was impressed. And obviously he wanted me so that feels good as well," Stam told BBC Somerset.
"The way he was speaking to me, what he wanted to do with the team and the way he wanted to play football was one of the main reasons for me to join them."
Skiverton told the club website: "I'm really pleased. He's got a really good pedigree and is exactly the type of character that we are looking for.
"Of all my summer targets Stefan has been up at the top of the list."
